The interesting reason tickets to watch Tiger Woods at the 2020 Genesis Invitational start at just $19.92

November 12, 2019

Tiger Woods committed to his first event of 2020 on Tuesday, and fans will get a chance to see Woods and others up close for far less than what it costs to play your local muni.

Woods announced he’ll play the 2020 Genesis Invitational at Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles on Feb. 13-16. Woods and his foundation have hosted the event since 2017, so his commitment isn’t too shocking. Although last year it was named the Genesis Open, this year it has received elevated status to become the Genesis Invitational, which was announced a year ago. The upgraded status gives the Genesis Invitational a smaller field, bigger purse and a three-year PGA Tour exemption for its winner instead of the typical two-year exemption.

The 2020 edition of the Genesis will also be an anniversary of sorts for Woods. He made his PGA Tour debut as a 16-year-old amateur at Riviera in 1992, when he missed the cut at what was then called the Nissan Los Angeles Open. In honor of that debut, tickets for the 2020 Genesis Invitational begin at just $19.92. That’s extremely cheap golf viewing for not only an event that should boast a strong field, but for access to an iconic and exclusive golf club. (There’s also complimentary grounds tickets for youth 15 and under.)

The grounds tickets listed at $19.92 are for practice rounds Monday-Wednesday. Thursday to Sunday tickets are $45, and you can check out other ticket packages here.

While this is Woods’ first announced start of 2020, he still could play prior to the Genesis. He has a spot in the Sentry Tournament of Champions on Jan. 2-5, and he’s often played the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines, which this season is Jan. 23-26.
