The ‘Hero’ CEO has a hilarious story about Tiger Woods’ Tour Championship win

November 28, 2018

ALBANY, The Bahamas — Where were you when Tiger Woods’ won the Tour Championship? Probably parked in front of a television somewhere, right? Basically everyone was — apart from Hero MotoCorp CEO Pawan Munjal.

It wasn’t by choice. Speaking ahead of this week’s Hero World Challenge, Munjal was on a flight from Delhi to Budapest on business and had planned to live-stream the final round from the air. Good plan, except for one horribly timed problem: The wifi-on the plane broke.

So, what did Munjal do?

“I was obviously keen to know what was going on, so I was on the SAT phone every 15 minutes with the ground in Budapest getting the scores,” Munjal said.

At one point, Munjal even considered taking things one step further. “I was considering asking the pilot to land somewhere so I could watch it,” he said.

Munjal got hole-by-hole updates via his plane’s phone until he landed. When he touched down in Budapest, he learned that Tiger had secured his victory. “What could I do?”, Munjal said. “I was in Budapest. I wish I was in Atlanta.”

Amen to that.
