The rain delay at the BMW Championship has been a major disruption to the FedEx Cup Playoffs, none more so than for three-time PGA Tour winner Brendan Steele and golf writer Jason Sobel. Turns out Sobel put down his pen on Monday and picked up Steele’s golf bag instead.
With the storms washing out the entire day of play Sunday, the final round was moved to Monday morning. One problem for Brendan Steele: his caddie Christian Donald had an early flight scheduled for Monday.
“No, you don’t have to stick around,” Steele told him, according to Sobel. “I’ll just find someone to carry the bag that day,” .
Steele then turned to Sobel and said, “What time do you fly out Monday? It’s yours if you want it.”
Though Sobel noted that he has caddied on Tour once before, he still admitted to being nervous. But when he found out Steele was paired with Phil Mickelson, he said he was no longer nervous: “Now I’m terrified.”
