Fantasy Six Pack: Get these players in your DraftKings and FanDuel lineups at the John Deere Classic

July 10, 2019

Welcome to the Fantasy Six Pack! If this is your first time joining us, we highlight six golfers to use in two popular fantasy golf platforms, DraftKings and FanDuel. On each, you must select six golfers for your lineup under a specific salary cap. (DraftKings $50,000, FanDuel $60,000) A little about me: I’m a golf nut with a 4 handicap that’s trending upward (since my son, James, was born, it’s skyrocketed.) and a nose for analytics — according to Rotogrinders, I’m one of the top daily fantasy golf players and ranked inside the top five of all players. Come check out all of my analysis at Awesemo.com where last week I was able to secure a profit of over $10,000!

Recap of last week:

Last week I was dealing with my first-ever “whole home sickness” and have been out of action for a bit. Parents, I’m sure you’ve been there. On to the week ahead.

The Tournament: John Deere Classic
Course: TPC Deere Run
Average Winning Score: -20
Average Cut: -5
Yardage: 7,200
Par: 71

Last year’s top finishers:

Michael Kim

Sam Ryder

Bronson Burgoon

Joel Dahmen

Harold Varner III

Skills emphasized: The third week in a row where birdies will be flying. The winner is expected to get somewhere close to 20 under, thus making putting and approach shots very important. Golfers need to rack up birdie looks to compete this week.

The Favorite:

Viktor Hovland (Odds: 16/1, DraftKings $10,900, FanDuel $12,200): While I am quickly adopting Collin Morikawa (Odds: 16/1, DraftKings $10,700, FanDuel $12,300) as one of my new favorite players (possibly replacing Jordan Spieth), Hovland has a little more to play for this week. While I fully expect him to secure full status by season’s end, he’s currently much further away than Morikawa and new PGA Tour winner Matthew Wolff (Odds: 25/1, DraftKings $10,500, FanDuel $12,000). Statistically, the Deere looks good for Hovland, as the only area where he’s slightly struggled is putting. One hot week on the greens, and he could win. This could be the week.

Going Streaking: Players entering this week in excellent form

Sam Burns (Odds: 40/1, DraftKings $9,100, FanDuel $10,700): A terribly cold putter last Saturday kept Burns from his first top five of the year. Still, the seventh-place finish was his best all season, and he did it by gaining strokes in all facets of his game. He’ll need to pick up his approaches a bit this week if he wants to contend for a win, but everything seems to be rounding into form at a pivotal time. If you take out a couple of withdrawals, he’s earned a paycheck in 14 straight events, an impressive streak.

Sungjae Im (Odds: 20/1, DraftKings $9,700, FanDuel $11,200): The last time we wrote this article Sungjae was in a funk. No more. He’s on a run of four straight top 25s, and he seems to be finding the form he flashed last year on the Web.com, when he racked up top-10s with regularity. He has a shot to make it to East Lake at the end of the year, and this week looks like a great opportunity to help get him there.

“Looks good off the tee” – a player in good form who may be due for regression

Lucas Glover (Odds: 25/1, DraftKings $9,800, FanDuel $11,900): Glover fired a 62 last Sunday, but  if Cameron Davis hadn’t tripled his final hole on Friday, Glover wouldn’t have slipped in under the cut line. I’m not going to buy into Glover’s Sunday round at these prices.

“Out of Bounds” — a lesser-known player ready to break out

Adam Svenson (Odds: N/A, DraftKings $6,700, FanDuel $7,700): A rookie on tour this year, Swenson is struggling with his putter, which is too bad because he’s also one of the best tee-to-green players in the game. In this field, he ranks third in that stat! It’s almost a no brainer to play him in these types of fields. All you need is for him to find the putter one of the first two days to get to the weekend, and then he easily pays off his salary.

Mulligans – A struggling player who is due to turn it around

Doc Redman (Odds: 100/1, DraftKings $7,200, FanDuel $8,400): An opening-round 77 ensured an MC, and he also made an 8 on a hole along the way. If he could have a mulligan I’m sure he’d use it there. Still, he shot a 69 on Friday, perhaps giving him a little confidence heading into this week. He needs to make another cut or two to secure full-time status on Tour next year.
