The ‘epicenter’ of the Rocket Mortgage Classic will be a three-hole stretch called Area 313

June 27, 2019

The loudest and liveliest place at this week’s Rocket Mortgage Classic will be down the stretch at Detroit Golf Club.

Area 313 — named after the city’s area code — encompasses the 14th, 15th and 16th holes, a par 5, par 3 and par 4, respectively.

The area is surrounded by general admission stadium seating and hospitality venues, playing off the popular amphitheater settings at several PGA Tour events, most notably the 16th at TPC Scottsdale and the Waste Management Phoenix Open. Organizers call it the “epicenter of activity both inside and outside the ropes.”

“Area 313 has been designed to be a stretch of the golf course unlike anything else on the PGA Tour,” Jason Langwell, the executive director of the Rocket Mortgage Classic, said in a release. “It is an area where fans can watch the action on three different holes, as some of the world’s best golfers make the difficult decision of whether to gamble on going for the green in two on 14, attacking the flag on 15 and pushing their luck on 16. Area 313 will be the central gathering place for watching great golf and enjoying the signature summertime event in Detroit.”
