Chez Reavie had a commanding lead heading into the final round of the Travelers Championship on Sunday at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Conn. This thing was as good as over, right? Wrong. Here’s what you missed in the final round.
Who won: Chez Reavie (one-under 69, 17 under overall)
How it happened: Reavie led Keegan Bradley and Zack Sucher by six after 54 holes, and Reavie played the front nine on Sunday in even par to make the turn in 16 under, still five up on Paul Casey (who was the clubhouse leader), Kevin Tway (who was through 12 holes) and Bradley (who was in the final group with Reavie). But Bradley, the fan favorite having grown up in nearby Vermont, didn’t let Reavie soak in a victory lap. Bradley made birdies on 10, 11, 13 and 15 to cut the lead to one with three to play. But after pars on 16, Bradley drove it into the fairway bunker on 17 and three-putted for a double bogey. It turned out to be a three-shot swing as Reavie made birdie, his only one of the back nine, to turn what was a one-shot lead into a four-shot advantage. Both players parred the 18th as Reavie beat Bradley (67) and Sucher (67) by four.

Why it matters: It’s the second PGA Tour victory of Reavie’s career, and first in over a decade. The 37-year-old’s first Tour victory came at the RBC Canadian Open in 2008. It’s been a good run for Reavie, who also tied for 3rd at the U.S. Open last week.
Best round: Abraham Ancer birdied five of his final eight holes to shoot a seven-under 63 — the best round of the day by two strokes — and fly up the leaderboard. He finished 10 under overall and tied for 8th.
Up next: The Tour heads to Detroit, Mich., for the inaugural Rocket Mortgage Classic at Detroit Golf Club. Rickie Fowler, Dustin Johnson, Bubba Watson and last week’s U.S. Open champ, Gary Woodland, highlight the field.
