Tour pro arrested in prostitution sting just two off the lead at Korn Ferry Q-School Finals
On Tuesday, PGA Tour pro Tommy “Two Gloves” Gainey was one of 124 suspects arrested as part of a prostitution and human-trafficking sting. On Thursday, he shot 66 in the first round of the Korn Ferry Tour Q-School Finals.
Gainey, 44, was charged with soliciting a prostitute, which is a misdemeanor in Florida. Gainey was released on $500 bond, according to CNN’s report on Polk County jail records. His arrest came as part of “Operation Santa’s Naughty List,” an undercover sting targeting prostitution, human trafficking and child predators.
County Sheriff Grady Judd told the AP that Gainey, a South Carolina native, was in Florida for a charity golf event.
“[Gainey] missed his tee time the next morning,” Judd said. “He was a scratch.”

After posting bail, Gainey teed it up at Korn Ferry Tour Q-School Finals at Orange County National in Winter Park, Fla. He made six birdies and an eagle against just two bogeys for a six-under 66, leaving him just two shots off the lead in the four-round event. The top 40 players and ties receive guaranteed starts for the upcoming season and exemptions into at least the first eight events of the year.
In recent years, Gainey, who is known as “Two Gloves” for his inclination to wear a golf glove on each hand, has split time between the Korn Ferry Tour and the PGA Tour. Lately, he’s been relying on past champion status from his win at the 2012 McGladrey Classic. He has made one cut in four starts on Tour so far this season and is currently ranked No. 1,607 in the world.
Gainey, who lives in Bishopville, S.C., first came onto the scene as a part of Golf Channel’s “Big Break” series. He appeared in two seasons and would go on to become the first show alum to earn his PGA Tour card.
The PGA Tour told CNN through a spokesperson, “We are aware of the situation but have no additional comment.”
