It’s safe to say that Tom Kim’s goal on the final night of the TGL regular season was not to make Tiger Woods cry. But that’s exactly what happened.
Kim and Tiger’s team, Jupiter Links Golf Club, played their last regular season match on Tuesday night. Having been eliminated from playoff contention before the match began, it also represented the teams’ final TGL match of the year.
Unfortunately for Jupiter, they lost again, this time being trounced by Atlanta Drive Golf Club 9-1. That gave Jupiter a final record of 1-4-0 for the inaugural TGL season.
What does a TGL-eliminated Tiger Woods look like? Tuesday, we found outBy: Nick Piastowski
It’s surely a huge disappointment for Woods to miss out on the playoffs in the league he founded. But his team’s unfortunate performance wasn’t the cause of his tears on Tuesday night.
Nor was it poor play by Kim that opened the flood gates. Instead, it was an embarrassing celebration by Kim that sent the 15-time major champion into fits of laughter and tears.
On the 8th hole, Jupiter had a lie just off the edge of the green, and it was Kim’s turn to hit. He pulled a wedge and made his chip. Upon seeing the ball tracking toward the cup, Kim tossed his wedge in the air, raised his arms and turned toward his teammates in celebration.
One problem: the ball didn’t go in. Once Kim noticed his ball had lipped out, he could only watch as teammates Max Homa and Tiger broke into laughter, with tears streaming down both of their faces.

During their post-match interview, Woods joked about the moment, saying, “Tonight we were both crying on the green… that was an early call and he’s not going to live that one down for a very, very long time.”
When asked for his reaction, Kim replied with a straight face, “I’m going to wait patiently before it goes in. I learned my lesson big time… For the rest of my career, just wait until it goes in and then celebrate.”
The TGL playoffs officially kick off on Monday, March 17. Unfortunately, if Tiger or his Jupiter Links teammates are in attendance, it will be from the grandstands.
