Nearly 13 years after he moved to the Palm Beach area, Tiger Woods has finally played in the Seminole Pro-Member. But if he wants to win it, he’ll have to return next year.

In his first-ever appearance at the famed, ultra-exclusive one-day club event in Juno Beach, Florida, Woods teamed with PGA of America CEO Seth Waugh to post a better ball score of 70 and net 67, finishing well outside the top 10 in both divisions. The Twitter account @5ClubsGolf shared the results of Monday’s event on Tuesday morning.

Two-time PGA Tour winner Mackenzie Hughes and partner Frank Edwards got the win and the “paint” by winning the gross division with a sparkling 64. They also tied for the low net score, but that division was won by Erik van Rooyen and John Pinkham with a 62.

Van Rooyen almost didn’t finish his round Monday because he still had a chance to win the Cognizant Classic. Last fall’s World Wide Technologies Championship winner finished his final round Sunday with the clubhouse lead at 14 under after a 63. Twenty-six golfers, including Austin Eckroat, who led van Rooyen by a shot to start Monday, had to finish their final rounds after a storm caused a three-and-a-half hour delay.

According to retired longtime Seminole head professional Bob Ford on PGA Tour Radio, the club was prepared to pull van Rooyen off the course and shuttle him back to PGA National — about 25 minutes away — if there was a chance he could end up in near the lead or in a playoff.

Eckroat, who had to bail on his tee time at Seminole, polished off a final-round 67 with three birdies over his last 11 holes Monday to win by three over Van Rooyen and Min Woo Lee. But that meant van Rooyen’s round at the 1929 Donald Ross track went uninterrupted on his way to the net title.

The pro-member is often a star-studded affair with the likes of Rory McIlroy, Collin Morikawa, Justin Thomas and Nelly Korda all taking part this year. Even some of the members hold significant weight with the likes of McIlroy’s father, Gerry, Tom Brady, former USGA boss Mike Davis, and PGA Tour board members Ed Herlihy and Jimmy Dunne.

However, despite moving to nearby Jupiter Island in 2011, less than 30 minutes up the Intracoastal Waterway from Seminole, Woods has never played the event until this year. He and Waugh finished T44 in the gross competition while their net 67 was slightly better for a T33 on that side.

The McIlroys shot 68/66 while Brady and Matt Cahill posted 69/67.

This was also the second straight year no LIV Golfers were in the field. But with that Tour playing the second of back-to-back events in the Middle East and Asia this week, that could have been a logistical challenge more than anything.
