The Open 2019: Shane Lowry’s caddie looks A LOT like an older version of… Shane Lowry

Shane Lowry tore up Royal Portrush in the second round of the 2019 Open Championship. In doing so, he single-handedly kept alive  the dream of an Irish-born player winning this Open on Northern Irish soil. But with all the camera time he’s getting on TV, a lot of viewers began to notice something strange about Lowry’s caddie.

Specifically, Lowry’s caddie looks a hell of a lot like an older version of… Shane Lowry.

The bagman in question is Brian ‘Bo’ Martin, who started carrying Lowry’s bag last December. If you look at the below photo from last month’s RBC Canadian Open, you’d have to agree that the resemblance is unmistakable (thanks in no small part to the two men’s beards and the color of their beards).

People watching the Open were quick to react to the caddie-player doppelgangers on Twitter, like Sky Sports’ Jeff Babineau:

Lowry went through a lot of caddie changes last year, but it seems that Martin is here to stay, thanks to the partnership’s recent success. Martin also happens to hail from Northern Ireland, which gives the pair a great advantage over the weekend, while also earning Lowry a few more supporters at Portrush.

One thing would guarantee Martin’s permanent placement on Lowry’s bag: an epic Open Championship victory on Sunday in front of thousands of adoring Irish fans.
