Sergio Garcia leads by two in South Africa

November 10, 2018

On the heels of a third-round 71, Sergio Garcia is in position for a wire-to-wire win in South Africa at the European Tour’s Nedbank Golf Challenge.

It would be Garcia’s second win is as many events, after his victory at the Andalucia Valderrama Masters, his home event in Spain.

Lurking just two shots behind Garcia is South African Louis Oosthuizen, who shot a third-round 72.

“To win would be great,” Garcia said. “It’s going to be tough, there’s no doubt about that, but it’s great to come with some good momentum, playing nicely and in the lead. It should be a fun day.”

Garcia was hot out of the gates with a score of 64 in Round 1, which gave him the lead by four shots. But two subsequent rounds of 71 have brought the field a bit closer.

“I think if I can manage to shoot somewhere in the 60s, maybe 70 might be enough,” Garcia said. “I’m going to see if I can shoot below 70 and see if that’s good enough.”

Garcia and Oosthuizen will begin playing the final round at 2:40 a.m. EST (9:40 a.m. local time).
