Retief Goosen finishes birdie-birdie to win Bridgestone Senior Players Championship

July 14, 2019

Retief Goosen finished birdie-birdie to win the Bridgestone Senior Players Championship on Sunday at Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio.

It’s Goosen’s first PGA Tour Champions title. The Senior Players is also one of the circuit’s five major tournaments.

The 50-year-old Goosen held the 36-hole lead, but he trailed by a stroke entering Sunday. After a bogey on the par-4 opener he rebounded with an eagle on the 2nd hole. His 15-foot birdie putt on 17 gave him the solo lead and his 10-foot birdie putt he rolled in on 18 put him up by two. He signed for a two-under 68 to finish six under overall. Jay Haas (67) and Tim Petrovic (68) tied for 2nd at four under.

Steve Stricker finished alone in sixth place at one under, a shot ahead of Kenny Perry, Woody Austin and Scott McCarron.
