This hero military vet is trying to set an inspiring golf world record

November 17, 2019

It’s official: This guy is the most easy-to-root-for golfer in the country right now.

His name is Yancy Methvien. Yancy is from Brookhaven, Mississippi, and is a military veteran struggling with PTSD. That’s when he started playing golf. It was the only thing that seemed to help, and it quickly became a therapeutic comfort for him.

And now, he’s honing in on a world record.

Methvien’s goal is to break the world record for most rounds played walking in a single year. The current record is 878, but he’s trying to surpass it by 33 so he gets to the number 911. It’s his small way of honoring all the heroes who served in the almost 20 years since that may also be struggling with PTSD.

Speaking to WJTV:

I felt better out on the golf course than just about anywhere else. I was relaxed. I didn’t have my mind on a lot of the things that had been bothering me. Golf apparently is very good mentally- as frustrating as the sport is- very good mentally for PTSD, stress related symptoms and recovery from some of the injuries that soldiers have received during their time in service.

An inspiring story we’ll all be rooting for. You can watch the full interview below
