Poll: Pros reveal their favorite (and least favorite!) courses on Tour

November 2, 2019

It goes without saying that some courses are more well-liked than others on the PGA Tour, but is there a definitive answer for the best and worst Tour track when it comes to players’ taste? According to the results of the latest edition of GOLF.com’s Anonymous Pro Survey, the answer is yes.

This year’s survey was conducted at September’s Safeway Open, and 52 players gave their unfettered takes on 46 questions on the hottest topics of the day, including Tiger, Trump, driver testing, backstopping — and yes, even Tour venues. The survey respondents included 30 Tour winners, three major winners and 15 players who have made a Ryder Cup or Presidents Cup team.

When the players were asked to name their favorite course on Tour, two venues emerged as the clear winners. Riviera, home of the Genesis Invitational, received the most votes, with 20%, but Muirfield Village, which annually hosts the Memorial, was close behind with 16%.

Other courses that received significant votes included Harbour Town (RBC Heritage) with 8%, TPC Sawgrass (Players Championship) with 8%, Pebble Beach (AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am) with 6% and Quail Hollow (Wells Fargo Championship) with 6%.

On the topic of least-favorite course, the players were no less decisive. TPC San Antonio, home of the Valero Texas Open, was the clear choice, with 16% of the vote. “TPC San Antonio wasn’t designed for the predominant wind. Big miss,” said one player.

Twelve percent of the players polled said none of the courses in the Tour’s rota are bad. “They’re all good today,” said one player. Other courses receiving significant votes were Trinity Forest (AT&T Byron Nelson) with 8% and TPC Louisiana (Zurich Classic of New Orleans) with 6%.
