President Trump ends golf hiatus with five rounds over Thanksgiving break

November 26, 2018

President Trump is back on the golf course. After a one-month golf hiatus in the lead-up to the midterm elections, Trump played every day of his Thanksgiving break at Trump International, his club in West Palm Beach.

It was Trump’s first trip of the season to both Trump International and Mar-a-Lago, the social club associated with the course. The rounds broke up the longest stretch he had gone as president without teeing it up.

Trump kicked off the week on Wednesday, when he joined three generations of Nicklauses at the club: Jack, Jack’s son, former pro Gary Nicklaus, and Gary’s son G.T., who made waves when he hit an ace at last year’s Masters Par-3 Contest.

On Thanksgiving Day, Trump visited a nearby Coast Guard station and invited the Coast Guard to play golf at his property. “Anybody that wants to go, you go,” he said, and offered a challenge. “If you break par, I’ll give you $100.” He then made his way to Trump International for roughly four hours, according to White House pool reports.

On Friday, Trump spent five hours at his golf club, and he headed over Saturday morning for another six hours, where he was captured by Daily Mail photographers in a red shirt and white hat. It was not immediately clear who Trump had played with on Friday or Saturday; the White House rarely releases details of his rounds or even confirms that he is playing.

On Sunday, Trump capped off the vacation with another trip to Trump International. NewsMax Media CEO Christopher Ruddy posted a photo of the president in golf attire giving a thumbs up to camera. Ruddy wrote that the president was in a “great mood” and is looking forward to the G20 summit this week.

Sunday’s round marked Trump’s 167th visit to a golf course since he became president, by one count. He returned Sunday evening to Washington D.C. with his wife, Melania, and their son Barron, but he will return to the campaign trail in Mississippi on Monday night.
