U.S. Open 2019: President Trump congratulates Gary Woodland after win at Pebble Beach
Gary Woodland received a lot of praise for winning the 2019 U.S. Open, his first major championship, on Sunday at Pebble Beach. One of those public acknowledgments came from arguably the nation’s biggest golf fan: President Donald Trump.
Trump took to his favorite social media platform, Twitter, to congratulate Woodland for his victory on Sunday. See the tweet for yourself.
Congratulations to Gary Woodland in winning the United States Open Golf Championship. Fantastic playing, great heart – there will be more in Gary’s future!

This isn’t the first time that the 45th President of the United States, an avid golfer himself, has applauded major champions for their victories. When Tiger Woods won his fifth Masters title and 15th major championship in April, Trump was effusive in his praise of the 43-year-old on Twitter. This of course led to Woods being awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by Trump in a Rose Garden ceremony.
Great Masters going on right now. @TigerWoods is leading with 2 holes left to play. Very exciting, tune in!

Maybe Woodland will get an invite to the White House or to play a round of golf with the Commander in Chief in the near future. Trump has been seen frequently playing golf with some of the sport’s best, including the aforementioned Woods, Jack Nicklaus, Dustin Johnson, Rory McIlroy, Hideki Matsuyama, and Ernie Els.
