Hello friends and welcome to this week’s edition of the Rogers Report! I’m pumped about the fact that we’re just one week out from the PGA Championship and the Mizuho Americas Open, which I will be attending at Liberty National.
Remember four weeks ago, when the golf world was buzzing over the fact that Scottie Scheffler might withdraw from the Masters if his wife Meredith went into labor? Well, we’re a few days away from continuing that storyline into the second men’s major of the year. Scheffler isn’t teeing it up at the Wells Fargo this week as they await the birth of their firstborn, but wow, this is a highly anticipated birth in the golf world. I’m looking forward to all the tweets about Scottie’s new perspective as a father in the coming weeks.
Okay, enough about that. Let’s get to the BIG news of the day.
Nelly Korda at the Met Gala
Without Blake Lively and Taylor Swift at the Met Gala last night, the event needed a new hero. And you know who perfectly fit the bill? World No. 1 Nelly Korda. I had no idea that Korda was attending, so you can imagine my surprise when I saw one of my favorite golfers pop up on Getty Images as I scrolled through photos from the night. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. One of the biggest perks of working in golf is the access to Getty Images, and not just during tournaments! I scroll through Getty during the Super Bowl, after concerts and of course throughout the Met Gala.
We’ve gotten used to seeing movie stars and musicians at the Met Gala, but Korda is just the second professional golfer to attend the event (and the first LPGA player)! Tiger attended it with Lindsey Vonn back in 2013.
Also, shout out to Korda for getting an early-morning nine in to prep for the Founders Cup the morning of the Gala.
The grind never stops!
Finau Foundation Gala
Speaking of galas, Tony and Layna Finau hosted one of their own over the weekend at Blue Sky Ranch in Utah. This was the third annual Tony Finau Foundation Gala, which raised money for the foundation’s primary pillars — literacy, basic needs and mental health.
Layna Finau made sure her husband had a new suit for the occasion, and that it matched his shoes.
The Finaus have had a great two weeks. They attended Patrick Mahomes’ “15 and Mahomies” event in Las Vegas a few weeks ago, where they met Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce.
The Tony Finau Foundation Gala had some big names in attendance as well, including Dwyane Wade, Bones Mackay and singer Brett Young, who performed at the event.
Bones and Dwyane Wade! How about that? I’d love to know what these guys all talked about.
I’m desperate to know what big event Layna and Tony Finau will be attending next.
Meme of the week
And finally, I’ll leave you all with the best photo I’ve seen on the internet in a very long time: Adam Hadwin enjoying his dinner while his daughter Maddox does her thing.
