Nelly Korda recovers from Solheim Cup heartbreak with birdie rampage

September 22, 2019

Nelly Korda certainly didn’t waste time getting over the U.S. Team’s heartbreaking, last-gasp loss to the European Team at the Solheim Cup. One week after Suzann Pettersen knocked-in the putt to doom the U.S. team’s chances of a third-consecutive victory, Korda did the same to secure her first Ladies European Tour win.

Making her debut at the Lacoste Ladies Open de France, Korda, who led by one shot after 54 holes, caught fire as she made the turn on Sunday. She birdied 9, 11, 12, 14 and 15. Another birdie on 16 was enough for a four-under 67 in difficult, windy conditions.

“I was consistent and hit a lot of fairways and greens, so I gave myself a lot of opportunities and my putting was quite good,” she said. “I played really well last week and unfortunately we didn’t get the win, but I’ve been playing really solidly. I played a KLPGA event a couple of weeks before Solheim and I finished second there, so I’m playing really solid and hopefully I can do it again.”

There’s no good way to get over the heartbreak that comes with losing the Solheim Cup — but this is about the best way possible.
