Michelle Wie reveals that she’s dating NBA legend Jerry West’s son

January 29, 2019

Michelle Wie has a lot going on. She recently posted a video to her Instagram account of her taking tee shots, as she just had hand surgery this past October that took her out for the remainder of the LPGA season. And she has a new boyfriend, as she also revealed on her Instagram that she’s dating basketball legend Jerry West‘s son, Jonnie.

The 30-year-old West is currently the director of basketball operations for the back-to-back NBA champion Golden State Warriors. His father, who is most famously known as “The Logo”, previously worked for the Warriors as a consultant and executive before leaving to join the Los Angeles Clippers in a similar capacity.

Like his father, the younger West played college basketball at West Virginia. Now, he reportedly hopes to become an NBA general manager and run an organization like his father , Jerry West, did after his Hall of Fame career.

Following his 15-year career with the Los Angeles Lakers in which he appeared in 14 All-Star Games and won an NBA title in 1972, Jerry West became the general manager for his former team and, later, for the Memphis Grizzlies. The Lakers won eight NBA championships during West’s tenure in the front office, which included 20 years as the head of basketball operations.

The younger West began with the Warriors in 2012 and has held four different titles since joining the organization.

But West shares a common love for golf with Wie. He has played and caddied with Stephen Curry and Andre Iguodala, as well as with Warriors’ owner Joe Lacob. The two-time MVP Curry has said that West is a better golfer than he is a caddie. In fact, West caddied for Curry during the Web.com Tour event that the six-time All-Star guard appeared in last August.

Accompanying the photo of her and West, Wie revealed that her doctor gave her good news that she had the green light to start practicing and preparing for the 2019 LPGA season. The 29-year-old Wie also said that she ordered a brand-new set of Callaway golf clubs to help her get ready to return to the course.

The former U.S. Women’s Open champion last won on the LPGA Tour this past March at the HSBC Women’s World Championship. It was her first win on Tour in nearly four years. Her last appearance on Tour came at the LPGA KEB Hana Bank Championship in Korea, where she finished 66th.

Now we know why Wie was wearing the Warriors “Strength in Numbers” sweatshirt in her tee shot video.
