What did Justin Thomas scream at Tiger Woods when his winning putt dropped?

If you were anywhere near Golf Channel for the second session of the Presidents Cup on Friday (Thursday in the U.S.) you saw — and heard — Justin Thomas’ winning putt on No. 18. His 17-footer found the center of the cup and secured a valuable point for the U.S., helping turn the tides and stave off disaster heading to the weekend.

But what was it that Thomas screamed at partner Tiger Woods during their post-putt celebration? It was hard to tell from the telecast, at first. But Woods confirmed after the round that Thomas was channeling a famous Hall-of-Famer: Terrell Owens. Among T.O.’s most famous catchphrases was this one: “I love me some me!” Here’s a clip to jog your memory:

Now watch Thomas’ celebration again, and you can make out the words perfectly: “I love me some me!” Not as convincing as T.O., maybe, but not for lack of passion. So where’d the reference come from, anyway?

“Should I tell him?” Thomas asked Rickie Fowler when confronted with the question in his post-round presser. Fowler had no idea what he was talking about. “Remember those videos we were watching this morning?”

Thomas decided to share his secrets. “There’s a video of Terrell Owens, just T.O. being T.O., but he yells ‘I love me some me!'” he told reporters. “And I showed it to the guys this morning, they hadn’t seen it, and I said, ‘If I make a big putt today, I’m yelling it.’ And that was about the biggest putt I could make, so I figured it was a pretty appropriate time to yell it.”

How familiar was Woods with the reference? “Very familiar with it,” he deadpanned after the round. “We were looking at it, and we had our moment on the last hole, and we both said it at the same time.”

The putt secured a 2-0-0 start for Woods and Thomas, but the pair will split up Saturday morning; Thomas will play with Fowler in the third session. No word yet on any other lines they might have planned. We’d suggest Randy Moss for inspiration.
