Watch: Righty Justin Thomas hits lefty for the shot of the day at the WGC Mexico Championship
Justin Thomas didn’t hit many good shots during his front nine Sunday at the World Golf Championships Mexico Championship.
He did hit perhaps the final round’s best shot.
With his drive nestled against a tree on the par-4 10th, the right-handed Thomas was forced to go lefty. He took three southpaw swings. And punched it out 40 yards through the trees.
His natural stance continued to let him down on the next shot. His third stroke went over the green, and the third-round leader ended up double-bogeying the hole, part of a stretch where he was 4-over over four holes.
Golf Twitter was certainly impressed:
“Justin Thomas had to hit his second on 10 left handed. And he STILL found the gap. I don’t know why he wants to make me feel bad about myself, but, look, we are where we are,” tweeted @TheCheeky9.
“Just watched Justin Thomas hit a shot next to a tree left handed(he is right handed) that I’m not sure I could have hit. By the way, I’m left handed. #theseguysaregood,” tweeted @scott_hilliard.
“The punch shot that Justin Thomas just hit at the #WGCMexico was genuinely one of the greatest shots I’ve ever seen. Reverse hand, clubbed flipped the wrong way, and he managed to cut it and give himself a leave for up and down?!?!” tweeted @JordanKatz11.
