‘Best playground in Texas’: Jordan Spieth’s family (and his new puppy!) on hand to open Dallas public park

September 15, 2018

Jordan Spieth was disappointed not to qualify for next week’s Tour Championship at East Lake. But time off has its benefits, too, that reach far beyond the game of golf.

Spieth was on hand Thursday to open a new playground at Flag Pole Hill Park in northeast Dallas, a venture funded in part by Spieth’s foundation.

“I can tell you this right now: He holds the trophy and the championship for the Best Playground in the city of Dallas and maybe the state of Texas,” Dallas City Council member Adam McGough said at the ceremony, according to the Dallas Morning News.

“I think what’s so cool about this park is that it’s so inclusive,” Spieth said. “It welcomes all families, all ages, all capabilities, which is so unique.”

The idea of inclusion rings particularly true for Spieth’s family. His younger sister Ellie was born with autism and was on hand at the ceremony with the rest of her school’s cheerleading squad.

While several other organizations were integral in getting the playground built, an early $175,000 commitment from the Jordan Spieth Family Foundation was key.

The entire Spieth family was on hand to witness the ceremony, including its newest member: Silo, Jordan and fiancee Annie Verret’s new puppy. Silo is a black lab (named for Silo Ridge Field Club in upstate New York), but don’t expect to see too many photos of the new dog. “She’s not going to be an Instagram dog,” Spieth told Dallas Morning News’s Brad Townsend.
