Jordan Spieth’s brother Steven is still getting buckets. The younger — and taller — Spieth earned “man of the match” honors on Friday in the season finale for Oviedo Club Baloncesto, the professional Spanish basketball team he joined earlier in 2019.
Steven Spieth, 24, has become quite the basketball globetrotter. After graduating from Brown University in 2017, Spieth earned a spot on the Dallas Mavericks’ Summer League team. The 6’7 guard didn’t make an NBA regular season roster, but instead signed with (in order) teams in Switzerland, Argentina, and Bosnia and Herzegovina before his latest opportunity arose for Oviedo, which plays in Spain’s second division, LEB Oro.
On Friday night, Spieth’s team took down Prat CB 81-71, setting up their playoff schedule. Spieth dropped 10 points on 4/5 shooting (2/3 from three), grabbed six boards and dished out eight assists to earned MVP honors for the game — and praise from his “proud mom,” Christine.

By his own admission, Spieth had been struggling with his shooting earlier in the season. He told a Spanish reporter that he was “still looking for his rhythm” and was looking forward to getting more comfortable and more aggressive as the season went along.
He seems to have arrived at that point. Spieth had been shooting 68% from the field (though just 28% from three-point range) going into Friday’s game. Since signing with the team in January, Steven has averaged 4.8 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 21.5 minutes per game.
Spieth’s Spanish playoff career will begin May 9 against Ourense.
