Jon Rahm roasted by pros, fans for preposterous Wimbledon look
Jon Rahm won the Irish Open on Sunday evening with a scorching final-round 62. As a follow-up act, he wore a preposterous outfit to Wimbledon on Wednesday. It’s hard to say which move garnered him more attention.
The cameras cut to Rahm during Wednesday’s Center Court session, and screenshots soon followed. He was there to watch Roger Federer take on Kei Nishikori. Federer won. Rahm lost. Thomas Pieters was first to the bloodbath, firing off a tweet skewering the 24-year-old’s look. “Im on the floor,” he wrote.
@PepperellEddie take it from here boss. Im on the Floor 😂 @CHANEL @HUGOBOSS @gucci @Hermes_Paris please help pic.twitter.com/104szOb5cV

It’s worth breaking down what, exactly makes this Rahm look so absurd. Three factors in particular stand out:
1. The shirt. Maybe Rahm was standing in solidarity with the U.S. Women’s National Team as they paraded the streets of New York. Otherwise, it’s hard to justify this star-spangled Mickey-Mouse-from-Fantasia inspired print, which clashes particularly with his bright blue patterned tie. Not good!
2. The shades. Again, on their own, these bad boys are not necessarily offensive. But paired with the jacket, shirt, look, vibe — you need to own these if you’re going to pull them off. Rahm is not owning these. Ryder Cup teammates Justin Rose, Paul Casey and Ian Poulter have always dabbled in questionable eyewear, so this may be a good thing, long-term. But in the moment? A little tough.
3. The look. Jon, you’re at Wimbledon here, mate. You could at least pretend to be enjoying yourself, no? Instead he looks lost in deep, dark thought. Perhaps considering why he was left out of Justin Rose’s photo from the Royal Box a day beforehand, with a crew that included European Ryder Cuppers Danny Willett, Lee Westwood, Tommy Fleetwood, Thorbjorn Oleson, Thomas Bjorn and Sergio Garcia. Perhaps regretting not going bolder with his jacket, maybe a bright white or blue blazer to fully commit to the absurdity of the All-England Club. With all that said, I’m glad nobody hard-cuts to me during random moments of sporting events; it’s unlikely to be a flattering look.
Great day at Wimbledon in The Royal Box with these beautiful people! Shook hands 🤝 Fed and Nadal yesterday. Let’s hope the magic rubs off on me for next week! pic.twitter.com/jd0Zq5RUbd

Things are going pretty well for Rahm, of course. He finished T3 at the U.S. Open, T2 at the Andalucia Masters and won the Irish Open, which puts him in good form as he makes final preparations for Portrush. Just keep him off the internet so his confidence stays properly up. You can see a few reactions below.

Nishikori has to focus on the positives – at least he isn't dressed like Jon Rahm #Wimbledon pic.twitter.com/XEGFqIALaD
