The 2025 John Deere Classic saw big names like Rickie Fowler, Max Homa and Jason Day roll into the Quad Cities for various reasons this week.
Day’s stay was short as he missed the cut after a sloppy opening round. Fowler acquitted himself well but a poor back nine on Friday doomed his chances of winning. Then, there’s Homa, who arrived at TPC Deere Run still searching for the top-tier form that saw him ascend to the top 10 of the Official World Golf Rankings.
Three solid days saw Homa enter Sunday’s final round one shot behind defending champion Davis Thompson, who was looking to become the first player to win back-to-back titles at the John Deere since Steve Stricker won three in a row from 2009-2011.
But a soft course brings a bunched leaderboard, and 20 players started Sunday within four shots of Thompson, including amateur Jackson Koivun, Matt Kuchar, and Brian Campbell.
When the dust settled after 72 holes at TPC Deere Run, Campbell and Emiliano Grillo were tied at 18-under. On the first playoff hole, Grillo hit his tee shot into the right rough and airmailed the green with his second. Grillo’s third shot landed in the fringe, and his putt for par from off the green missed low, which opened the door for Campbell to two-putt from 16 feet for the win.
With the win, the 32-year-old Campbell joined Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler, Ryan Fox and Sepp Straka as players who have won multiple individual events in 2025. Both of Campbell’s wins this season have come in a playoff. He beat Aldrich Potgieter in a playoff in February at the 2025 Mexico Open at VidantaWorld. Ben Griffin won the Charles Schwab Challenge and the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, a team event, with Andrew Novak.
