Immediately after hitting a putt, a pro golfer will sometimes pick up his head and start walking to the hole. In some of these instances, it’s because the pro knows it’s going in early, à la Tiger Woods in his prime. Other times, it’s because the pro is disgusted with the putt and knows it’s not going in. Joel Dahmen pulled off a bizarre combination of the two on Friday.

In the second round of the 2025 Texas Children’s Houston Open, Dahmen had set himself up with a 21-foot birdie putt at Memorial Park’s 15th hole. One under at the time, Dahmen was eyeing another red number.

But immediately after the popular pro made his stroke, he didn’t like the look of it. He started walking after it before his ball was more than a few feet away. We can’t say for sure, but it certainly looked like he believed there was no chance the putt would go in.

But he was wrong. As Dahmen got closer to his still-rolling ball, it started tracking directly toward the cup. The pro noticed, and his body language changed as he stopped in his tracks and dialed his eyes on the cup.

And then it dropped. Dahmen’s birdie-2 quickly salved any embarrassment he might have been feeling, and he went on to shoot 66.

Check out the shot below.

The Friday 66 made up for Dahmen’s 71 on Thursday, leaving him at three under and T44 after two rounds. He tees off for the third round on Saturday at 12:17 p.m. ET.
