The Hoag Classic, an event on the PGA Champions Tour, has been a wild ride so far for 55-year-old Jeff Maggert this weekend. On Friday, the No. 25-ranked player on the Champions Tour five-putted from five feet at the 18th hole to make triple bogey. It led to him shooting a 5-over 76 during the first round, as he was only 2-over par through 17 holes. Here’s how it unfolded in Newport Beach, Calif.

But Saturday’s second round couldn’t have been any more different from Maggert’s first round. After finishing with an 8 on the final hole on Friday, Maggert shot an 8-under 63 on Saturday on a total of 22 putts to move back to 3-under overall through 36 holes. While he was tied for 66th after the first round, he wrapped up his second round tied for 19th.
Maggert, who hasn’t won on the Champions Tour since 2015, had four bogeys and only two birdies to compliment his triple-bogey on Friday. But on Saturday, he had only one bogey on his scorecard. Instead, Maggert racked up five birdies and two eagles on the day.
Maggert’s weekend at the Hoag Classic is a friendly reminder to all golfers that every day and round can be very different from the next.
