Here’s what you missed from Round 2 of the 3M Open

What a difference a day makes. After Scott Piercy lit up the golf course on Thursday, Bryson DeChambeau made his own statement on Friday, launching himself to the top of the leaderboard.

Here’s everything you missed from the Round 2 action at the 3M Open.

DeChambeau matched Scott Piercy’s Thursday 62 with a 62 of his own on Friday, and his stats were just about the same: a clean scorecard that featured nine birdies and zero bogeys. He also matched his career-low round.

DeChambeau is now 14 under par through two rounds. He’s currently ranked eighth  in the world and is chasing his sixth career win and second of the season. He holds a two-shot lead over his closest competitor, Adam Hadwin (-12), heading into the second round.

Piercy had five bogeys on Friday, but luckily those were offset by an eagle and four birdies. He finished at one under par on the day and is 10 under par for the tournament, four shots behind DeChambeau.

Tony Finau and Hideki Matsuyama are both 8 under par overall, six shots behind DeChambeau.

Viktor Hovland shot 5 under on Friday to get to 7 under overall. Patrick Reed is 6 under, and Jason Day and Brooks Koepka are both 3 under.

Unfortunately, Phil’s first-round woes extended into Round 2. He shot a 2-over 73 on Friday, bringing his two-day total to 5 over par — well short of the cut at 3 under par. This will mark Phil’s fourth missed cut in six events. Here’s hoping he can sort something out ahead of the Open at Royal Portrush.

The scores were low this week, so only players who shot 3 under par or better after two rounds earned the right to play the weekend.

Despite a strong performance last week, Cameron Champ couldn’t continue the momentum and missed this week’s cut with rounds of 75-74 (+7).

Other players who fell short include Nick Watney (+6), Phil Mickelson (+5), last week’s winner Nate Lashley (+2), Charley Hoffman (E), and Hunter Mahan (-2).
