Harold Varner III, a member of LIV Golf’s 4 Aces team, was arrested for Driving While Impaired Thursday night in Charlotte, N.C., according to Mecklenburg County police records.
Varner, who has been a LIV Golf player for the last 18 months, was arrested at 7:24 p.m. on Providence Road, a highway that runs south of Charlotte, not far from his listed address. Varner’s blood alcohol content was listed at .16 via a breathalyzer test, which is twice the legal limit in North Carolina. Varner was admitted to Mecklenburg County Jail and released shortly before 10 p.m. after posting $500 bond.
This is Varner’s first DWI offense and only driving record in Mecklenburg County besides a speeding ticket in 2021. DWI arrests in North Carolina are considered a misdemeanor offense and penalties are issued on a 5-level scale based on a defendant’s prior history. The lowest level still incurs a fine, maximum $200, and either 24 hours of jail time, 24 hours of community service or 30 days of not operating a motor vehicle, as decided by a district court judge.
Varner was issued a court date of Jan. 19, less than two weeks before the start of the next LIV Golf season. During the offseason he was traded from Bubba Watson’s Range Goats team to Dustin Johnson’s 4 Aces.
