FedEx St. Jude Championship Final Round Preview
There might be no win on the PGA Tour this season more impressive than the one within Hideki Matsuyama’s grasp on Sunday at the FedEx St. Jude Championship.
Sure, the former Masters Champ and current pro is one of golf’s most gifted players, but he’s never had a tournament whirlwind quite like the one facing him this week in Memphis, after he, his caddie and agent were all robbed in London en route home from the Olympics. The Olympic Bronze Medalist enters Sunday in Memphis with a new lease on life and, perhaps most impressively, a five-shot advantage over his fellow competitors despite missing his usual caddie, Shota Hayafuji from the bag.
He’ll be chased down on Sunday by a top-loaded group of stars in the first FedEx Cup playoff event, including Nick Dunlap, Viktor Hovland, Sam Burns and, yes, (of course) Scottie Scheffler. It’s a star-studded affair, just as it should be for the PGA Tour postseason, and as such, the money is a big piece of the puzzle.
A “signature event” worthy purse greets players this weekend at the FedEx St. Jude, which means the pressure will only be ratcheted up. Below is everything you need to know about the tournament’s $20 million purse; you can catch the final round on NBC beginning at 2 p.m. ET.
