Pro nabs world record for Fastest Hole Played (only after another pro is DQ’d for rules snafu)

July 31, 2019

When the Guinness Book of World Records pairs up with the game of golf, almost anything can happen. We’ve seen that much in recent years. Add in the European Tour content team and you’ve got the recipe for an entertaining video.

That European Tour sent out a squad of four pro golfers to try and break the world record for Fastest Hole of Golf by an Individual. The important rule is that the hole must be 500 or more yards in length and played exclusively by one player. The record to break was 1 minute, 33 seconds, by Ruben Holgado.

European pro Guido Migliozzi went first, followed by Sean Crocker, Paul Dunne and Thomas Detry. It doesn’t take long before they realize there’s a reason golf and running haven’t always been a combined effort.

Migliozzi hard-hooked his approach and quit. Crocker set a true pace with 1:41, and Dunne went out and broke the record — only to admit to breaking a rule when his driver (which he dropped) nudged the ball forward as he was preparing his approach.

At long last, finally, Detry had his turn. You can watch his spirited attempt in the video below. It’s well worth your time. For those uninterested in watching, Detry sets a new mark for all of us to shoot for: 1:29.
