Euro pro makes albatross, wins swanky BMW Roadster

September 21, 2019

Ross Fisher was cruising along during his third round, hanging out on the middle of the leaderboard at the BMW PGA Championship, when he hit a perfect 4-iron.

His shot flew and flew and flew about 215 yards toward the 18th green at Wentworth, crashing into the green, bouncing three times and rolling out to the cup. When it fell in the hole, it was an albatross earned.

But that wasn’t all that Fisher earned. His walk-off on the 18th hole earned him a third round 66 and … [in an extreme Price is Right voice] a brand new car!

BMW’s sponsorship of the championship included an albatross prize on the 18th, with the lucky player winning a BMW i8 Roadster. Quite the haul for Fisher!

“It was the best shot I’ve ever hit by a long way,” Fisher said. “It was 200 yards to the front, 225 to the pin. Just the perfect 4-iron.”

Fisher’s new vehicle is worth about $165,000, likely more than he will make from his on-course winnings this week. He’s currently eight shots behind Jon Rahm and Danny Willett. Not bad at all!
