Emotional Louis Oosthuizen wins South Africa Open to end winless drought

December 9, 2018

Louis Oosthuizen shot a final-round 67 to cruise to a victory at the South African Open on Sunday at Randpark Golf Course in Johannesburg.

The 36-year-old South African had not won in nearly three years, but he ended the drought by winning his native country’s championship.

“I wish the family was here,” said Oosthuizen, who fought tears just off the 18th green. “The crowd was great this whole week. It was nice to do it for them. I knew today was either going to be very special or heartbreaking. I know there’s only a few that have won the [British] Open and the SA Open so I’m very chuffed to have my name on this. This feels very special. This is perfect.”

Oosthuizen signed for an 18-under 266, six strokes clear of runner-up Romain Langasque.

The victory was Oosthuizen’s ninth of his European Tour career. You can watch his post-round interview below.
