It’s every golfer’s dream to make a hole-in-one. Most would be lucky to get just one in his or her golfing career.
Some are more conventional aces. Others, not so much. The latter applies here.
Eddie Pepperell made an unbelievable ace, the first of his career, on the ninth hole during the first round of the British Masters on Thursday.
Using a 5-iron on a 172-yard par 3, Pepperell’s shot hit the bottom of the flagstick before bouncing high in the air away from the hole. However, instead of stopping or rolling farther away from the hole, Pepperell’s ball spun back toward the flag, and dropped into the cup.
”It was a bizarre shot from where I was standing,” Pepperell said. ”I played awful in the pro-am on Wednesday, probably the worst I have in a while, and I wouldn’t say I played great today but … it’s great to be at the top with Matt and Tommy.”
Pepperell’s hole-in-one to close out the front nine on Thursday helped propel him into a share of the lead the lead. He’s currently at five under par (67) with fellow English golfers Tommy Fleetwood and Matt Wallace.
Pepperell also birded the seventh and 10th holes on Thursday, and had an eagle on the 11th.
