Charl Schwartzel out for the season with wrist injury

June 9, 2019

Charl Schwartzel will miss the rest of the PGA Tour season as he looks to recover from a lingering wrist injury. The 2011 Masters champion revealed the news on his Twitter on Saturday night.

The 34-year-old South African hasn’t won on Tour, let alone his professional career, since he captured the 2016 Valspar Championship. Ranked 135th in the world, Schwartzel dropped out of the top 100 in the world for the first time this year since 2008.

Schwartzel’s best finish on Tour this year was a T6 at the Puerto Rico Open this past February, which is his only top-10 finish of the year. He’s missed eight cuts in 13 starts this season, including the Masters this past April. His last appearance on Tour, the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, resulted in a missed cut as well.

His wrist injury forced him to withdraw from last month’s PGA Championship and U.S. Open sectional qualifying this past Monday.
