Looks like it’ll be a sprint to the finish at the Shiners Hospitals for Children Open, as players took it deep into red numbers under idyllic conditions on Saturday in Las Vegas. Here’s what you missed in Saturday’s third round.
Here comes Bryson
Bryson DeChambeau has made a few headlines this week, after stating that he plans to putt with the flagstick in once the calendar turns to 2019 and new Rules of Golf take effect. But DeChambeau is now in position to make an entirely different kind of news after firing a six-under 65 to pull into a tie for the lead at 16-under with Peter Uihlein. The 25-year-old hit 14-of-14 fairways and 16-of-18 greens in a nearly flawless display of accuracy and ballstriking. “We try to get our numbers right, the wind right. It just seemed like another day on the golf course, another day of work,” DeChambeau said afterward. “I think if I putt really well tomorrow I’ll be tough to beat.”
So far he has indeed been tough to beat from the position in which he finds himself. This is the third time DeChambeau has been the leader or co-leader entering the final round on Tour. He’s won each of the other two times — at this year’s Memorial and Northern Trust.

Peter Uihlein isn’t backing down
Uihlein is a former U.S. Amateur champion (2010) but is still seeking his first career PGA Tour win. He’s been on top of the leaderboard all week, and Saturday he fired a three-under 68. He and DeChambeau are one shot clear of Lucas Glover, who rang up seven birdies and two eagles en route to a 10-under 61, the round of the day.
Cameron Champ: Lurking
The 23-year-old rookie sensation is chasing back-to-back victories, and he’s put himself in position to pull it off. He shot a five-under 66 on Saturday and trails the co-leaders by three heading into the final round. In case you were wondering, Champ is averaging an eye-popping 343 yards off the tee this week. Don’t count him out.
