Here’s everything (money, exemptions and more) British Open winner Shane Lowry receives

Like every other major champion, the British Open winner receives a lot of money, several exemptions, and a nice-looking trophy for coming out on top. For 2019, that man is Shane Lowry after his six-shot victory at Royal Portrush on Sunday. He finished the tournament at 15-under.

First and foremost, the British Open champion earns $1.935 million for winning the fourth and final major of the year. That’s up from last year when 2018 Champion Golfer of the Year Francesco Molinari walked away with $1.89 million.

The British Open champion also receives an exemption in the event until he reaches age 60, a five-year exemption on the PGA Tour, five-year exemptions into the Masters, PGA Championship, U.S. Open, and Players Championship, and a 10-year exemption on the European Tour.

Of course, the most recognizable reward for winning the British Open is the opportunity to hoist the Claret Jug. Not only does the winner receive the Claret Jug, but his name is permanently engraved on the iconic trophy. And he gets custody of the trophy for a year. Not to mention, Lowry received the Gold Medal for his first major victory.
