British Open money: Total purse, payout breakdown, winner’s share for Royal Portrush

PORTRUSH, Northern Ireland — The total purse and payout breakdown for the 2019 Open Championship has been released, and the winner is going to go home with one giant paycheck.

The winner of the Open Championship at Royal Portrush receives $1.935 million, up from the $1.89 million Francesco Molinari earned for winning the 2018 Open championship at Carnoustie. The total purse of $10.75 million is up from $10.5 million last year, too.

The second-place finisher at Royal Portrush also easily clears seven figures, taking home a check of $1.12 million. Third place receives $718,000, fourth gets $558,000, and fifth takes home $449,000.

The payout breakdown for every finisher is below. The Open Championship winner also receives an exemption in the event until he reaches age 60, a five-year exemption on the PGA Tour, and five-year exemptions into the Masters, PGA Championship and U.S. Open. But it’s hard to beat that $1.935 million first-place check.
