The American Express odds to win: Rickie Fowler the betting favorite at La Quinta

The American Express kicks off in La Quinta, Calif., on Thursday with a new name and new tournament host in Phil Mickelson. But Mickelson isn’t the betting favorite this week. That honor belongs to Rickie Fowler, who is 12/1 to win, according to golfodds.com.

Fowler made his season debut at the Sentry Tournament of Champions and tied for 5th. The American Express will be just his second start of the 2019-20 season after he took much of the fall off following his wedding to Allison Stokke. This is Fowler’s first start in La Quinta since 2014, when he finished 33rd.

Reigning PGA Tour Rookie of the Year Sungjae Im has the second-best odds to win at 18/1, and he’s followed by Paul Casey (20/1), Tony Finau (25/1), Kevin Kisner (30/1), Charles Howell III (30/1), Billy Horschel (30/1), Byeong Hun An (30/1) and Scottie Scheffler (30/1). Mickelson is one of several players with 40/1 odds to win.
