The 2024 Masters is upon us and just like every year, the stats show just how unique each and every edition is.
This year’s “tradition unlike any other” features a Masters rookie unlike any other, a legend going for a record and more.
Here are five stats that might surprise you about the 2024 Masters.

… Majors played by Ludvig Aberg before this year’s Masters. Already both a winner on the PGA and DP World Tours, Aberg is the first player ever to compete in the Ryder Cup before playing in a major. This week last year, the now-24-year-old was playing in the Calusa Cup with his Texas Tech teammates where he finished T4 individually. A year later, he’s playing for a green jacket.

… Number of top 10 Masters finishes for Bernhard Langer (including his two wins in 1985 and 1993). Langer had previously announced this year’s Masters would be his last, but an Achilles injury will keep him out of the field for just the second time in 40 years.

… Consecutive cuts made by Tiger Woods, a record shared with Fred Couples and Gary Player. Woods tied the record last year by making the cut Saturday morning amid heavy rainfall before he withdrew during the third round with an injury. He didn’t tee it up again until December after ankle surgery. His only career missed cut at Augusta came in 1996, his second start and last as an amateur. Woods won by a record 12 strokes the following year to kick off his current streak.

… Phil Mickelson’s age in 2023 when he finished T2 at the Masters, the best-ever showing by a player older than 50 at Augusta. Mickelson owns the Masters career record for the lowest scoring average (71.30) of any player with more than 100 rounds played.
Doubling Up
Tiger Woods banked $486K for his 1997 Masters win, while Jon Rahm took home $3.24 million last year. The most exponential period of Masters purse growth was in the 1980s and ’90s, when the winner’s share doubled about every five years.
