On Super Bowl Sunday, the WM Phoenix Open has the unique distinction of leading into the most-watched sporting event of the year.
And Thomas Detry is introducing himself to a lot of the audience.
Detry took a five-shot lead into the final round of the tournament at TPC Scottsdale and was asked why he loves golf so much. His answer was endearing.
“It teaches you everything in life,” Detry said Saturday night. “It teaches you how to deal with emotions, pressure, if someone is a cheater, if someone is not a cheater, just everything. It’s a nice way of learning how to deal with life, I think.”
Of course, Sunday is a lot more than a lesson in life. There are millions of dollars at stake and for Detry and Sunday will essentially be his Super Bowl by the time he enters the Stadium Hole 16th, three holes away from becoming the first Belgian to win on the PGA Tour.
With that, here’s the complete breakdown for this week’s WM Phoenix Open. The total purse is $9.2 million.
