The 2025 Ryder Cup finally gets started on Friday, September 26, with the first eight team matches at Bethpage Black in New York. Ryder Cup Friday pairings and matchups will be unveiled Thursday afternoon at 4 p.m. ET. Once they are released, they will be reproduced at the bottom of this post. Until then, here’s what we know.
How Ryder Cup Friday matches are determined
The first day of play at the 2025 Ryder Cup will feature eight total matches, four matches in the morning session and four more in the afternoon.
The format will be foursomes, or alternate shot, for Friday’s morning session, with the first match expected to begin at 7:10 a.m. ET. Then the format will switch to four-ball for the afternoon matches.

Each match will feature two players from the U.S. team and two players from the European team. We don’t know who those players will be yet, but we do know how they’re determined.
Each captain determines which of their players will compete in each match and which match they will play in. But the captains do this work separately, so they don’t know which players the other captain is selecting for each match.
For example, if U.S. captain Keegan Bradley decided to pair World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler with Bryson DeChambeau and have them play in the first match on Friday, Bradley won’t know who European captain Luke Donald has selected to face them.
Crucially, not all players will compete in each session. Four players on each team will sit out each session, and there is no guarantee that every player will appear in a match on Friday.
Bradley and Donald will announce their selections on Thursday at 4 p.m. ET live on Golf Channel.
