When Scottie Scheffler took a seven-shot lead with an opening round of 65 on Thursday, it was tempting to think that he already had the tournament — and the FedEx Cup title — all sewn up.
But at the Tour Championship’s halfway point, hot rounds by Xander Schauffele, who shot a 64 to reach 16 under overall, and Collin Morikawa, who fired 63 to reach 17 under, have made things a bit more interesting heading into the weekend. While Scheffler’s round of 66 on Friday still has him holding a comfortable four-shot lead at 21 under, a lot can happen over 36 holes.
The players will of course need no reminder of what’s at stake: A record $25 million — a prize neither Scheffler, Morikawa nor Schauffele has ever won.
Scheffler tees off for Saturday’s third round at 2:55 p.m. ET alongside Morikawa, while Schauffele will play in the penultimate pairing at 2:44 p.m. ET with Sahith Theegala.
