World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler started the week with an eye on winning his third straight PGA Tour event. After an opening round of 65, it looked like he was well-positioned to continue his streak. But Friday’s second round of 70 brought him to five under overall, and now Scheffler has some work to do on Saturday to catch 36-hole leader Tony Finau, the tournament’s defending champion, who is nine under after rounds of 69-62.
Finau, who is seeking his seventh PGA Tour win, holds a two-shot lead over his closest competitor, Alejandro Tosti, who is seven under.
Finau will play alongside Tosti and Thomas Detry (-6) in Saturday’s final grouping at 12:40 p.m. ET.
