Canadian Tour pro Mackenzie Hughes may still be feeling the International team’s Presidents Cup loss in his home country. But if he is, he’s using it for motivation to inspire his best play.
On Thursday at the Sanderson Farms Championship, Hughes shot out of the gates with four quick birdies over his first eight holes to move near the top of the leaderboard early. He added two more red numbers after the turn to get to six under through 13.
Hughes’ hot hand may not be a surprise considering that one of his two PGA Tour victories came at this very tournament in 2022. But he has long way to go to capture his second Sanderson Farms title, and the quest continues on Friday.
Hughes will tee off for Friday’s second round at 1:45 p.m. ET alongside Patton Kizzire and Luke List.
