PGA Tour veteran Rickie Fowler was a popular dark-horse pick to win this week’s U.S. Open, and early on, he appears to be proving those believers right.

Rickie Fowler sets record for lowest round in U.S. Open history
By: Jack Hirsh

Fowler teed off early for Thursday’s opening round and fired a historic eight-under 62, the lowest score in U.S. Open history, to temporarily take the early lead. Shortly thereafter, Xander Schauffele matched Fowler’s record-setting score.

But there’s still plenty of golf left to navigate if Fowler wants to finally capture the first major championship title of his career.

Fowler continues his quest on Friday at 4:32 p.m. ET alongside major winners Justin Rose and Jason Day.
