Grant Thornton Invitational: Format, teams, how it worksBy: Josh Berhow
Friday’s opening format, scramble, provided plenty of red numbers for the teams, with Nelly Korda and Tony Finau shining brightest, firing a sizzling round of 16 under par, good enough for a one-shot lead over their closest competitors, Leona Maguire and Lucas Glover and Megan Khang and Denny McCarthy, who are 15 under.
Korda and Finau’s sizzling round of 56 featured only three pars. The pair posted 14 birdies and an eagle.
Maguire and Glover also had an eagle, a 2 on a par 4, and went on an incredible birdie run on their first 10 holes. They ended up with four pars on the card, as well as 13 birdies and the eagle.
Korda and Finau will tee it up alongside Maguire and Glover in Saturday’s final grouping at 12:34 p.m. ET, in which they will play the foursomes format. You can watch Saturday’s second round of the 2023 Grant Thornton Invitational on Golf Channel starting at 2 p.m. ET., followed by NBC at 3 p.m. ET. Peacock will offer a simulcast of Golf Channel and NBC’s coverage.
