After a lengthy five-month wait, golf fans will once again have the pleasure of watching Tiger Woods compete in an official PGA Tour event this week.
And it’s not just any event. It’s the tournament Tiger hosts, and it’s being played at the course where he made his PGA Tour debut over 30 years ago. Furthermore, as one of the PGA Tour’s new “designated events,” Woods and the rest of the field will be competing for a massive purse of $20 million.
Expectations are low for the 15-time major champion given his litany of injuries and his lack of reps in meaningful golf tournaments, especially when considering the stiff competition he will face from the likes of world-beating pros Scottie Scheffler, Jon Rahm and Rory McIlroy. But most fans will be happy just to see him take some swings on live TV for the first time since December’s PNC Championship.
Tiger tees off for Thursday’s opening round at 3:04 p.m. ET alongside McIlroy and Justin Thomas. You can stream Thursday’s first round via PGA Tour Live on ESPN+ or watch the action on Golf Channel.
