Previewing Players Championship Rounds 3 and 4
Monday golf. At the Players.
There’s your excuse, golf fan, to make it a three-day weekend. Go ahead, clip out that paragraph above and text it to your boss. You have our permission.
How did we get here? A three-day storm over TPC Sawgrass pushed the completion of Thursday’s all the way to Saturday, and after play on Sunday, there were upward of 27 holes to go. Which means, you golf fan, win. That’s about eight hours of play on Monday, beginning at 8 a.m., all of which will be televised (more on that below).
And just who will win? With that many holes, you can look a bit further down the leaderboard for a contender than you normally would entering a final day. After Sunday, Anirban Lahiri, at nine-under, leads. Two back are Tom Hoge and Harold Varner III, and three behind are Sebastian Munoz, Paul Casey and Sam Burns. But even those five and six back have a shot.
“I mean, obviously it definitely be a career highlight,” Lahiri said. “That goes without saying. This is the next thing to winning a major, I would say. Yeah, who doesn’t want to win the Players Championship?”
