Why Greg Norman is trying to find Greg Norman’s biggest fan

February 11, 2020

Maybe you were fond of his on-course swagger. Or you’ve gained an admiration for his business savvy.

Perhaps you’re simply smitten by his beefcake physique and shimmering mane. There are many reasons you might feel a strong affinity for Greg Norman. In which case, Greg Norman wants to hear from you.

On Tuesday, the Shark’s company announced that it is casting a wide net in a first-ever contest: “The Search for Greg Norman’s Biggest Fan,” in which the winner will get to meet and play golf with the man himself.

Why the big to-do?

Norman turned 65 this week, an occasion, he said, that prompted him to pause in appreciation.

“Yesterday (Feb.10) was my birthday, and upon reflection of 65 years of life and a 40-plus year career in golf, one of the most important things in my life have been my fans,” Norman said, in a statement announcing the competition. “They have supported me during my biggest achievements and lifted me up in defeat. Now it’s my turn to give back.”

There are two ways to enter the competition: visit shark.com/biggestfan and submit an essay on why you qualify as Norman’s biggest booster;, or post a video on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter (two minutes or less, please) that includes the hashtag #GregNormanBiggestFan in the copy of the post.

The winner, who will be announced on March 10, will get a chance to bang balls with Norman in South Florida. (A rep for Norman’s company said it’s still to be determined whether that will involve nine-hole round, an 18-hole round or a lesson.) The prize package includes round-trip airfare to Florida, accommodations, a set of Cobra clubs, a new wardrobe furnished by the Greg Norman Collection and a Garmin rangefinder.

Have at it, folks.
